About Us
The American University of Nigeria (AUN) is a private university located in Yola, the capital city of Adamawa State in northeastern Nigeria. It was founded in 2004 by Atiku Abubakar, a prominent Nigerian politician who served as Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007.
AUN is known for its American-style education system and is affiliated with the American University System. The university places a strong emphasis on providing a well-rounded education that includes a combination of academic rigor, community service, and practical skills development.
Goals
The goal of AUN is to train the future leaders of Africa and to serve as both a stimulus and agent of economic development throughout the region. All students, regardless of academic specialization, receive high-level training in information technology, entrepreneurship and in arts and sciences, all of which are the key to future sustainable development. AUN is committed to providing the skills and the leadership essential to advancing the continent’s pressing social and economic challenges.
