About the Polytechnic

Federal Polytechnic Bida, established in 1977, is a leading tertiary institution in Nigeria. Initially known as Federal College of Technology, Kano, it relocated to Bida following a decision by the Federal Government. Since its inception, the polytechnic has experienced remarkable growth and transformation, becoming one of the most respected institutions in the country.

Polytechnic History

Over the past four decades, Federal Polytechnic Bida has expanded significantly, now comprising seven schools and offering a wide array of programs. With 31 departments and 57 NBTE accredited programs, the institution continues to uphold its commitment to academic excellence and innovation. The polytechnic has evolved from four schools and twenty-three academic departments to its current structure.

Schools and Departments

  • School of Basic and General Studies: This school encompasses five departments, including Languages, Social Sciences, Legal, Basic Studies, and Mathematics. Proposed programs include Social Development (Community Development), Industrial and Labor Relations, Preliminary Studies in Sciences and Engineering, among others.
  • School of Applied and Natural Sciences: With seven departments, including Hospitality Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Science Laboratory Technology, this school focuses on practical, science-based education.
  • School of Information and Communication Technology: Offering programs in Computer Science, Office Technology and Management, and Mass Communication, this school is set to expand with new departments such as Library and Information Sciences, Software Development, and Cyber Security.
  • School of Engineering Technology: Comprising five departments, including Civil Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering, this school is planning to introduce new programs like Computer Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.
  • School of Environmental Design and Construction Technology: With six departments, including Architectural Technology and Quantity Surveying, this school trains students in various aspects of environmental design and construction.
  • School of Financial Studies: Offering programs in Accountancy and Banking and Finance, this school aims to introduce new departments such as Insurance and Taxation.
  • School of Business Administration and Management: With departments like Business Administration and Public Administration, this school is planning to expand its offerings to include Purchasing and Supply, Entrepreneurship Development, and more.
